The Japanese Red Cross Society is the
Japanese affiliate of the International Red Cross Society. The Imperial
Family of Japan traditionally has supported the society, with Empress as
Honorary President and other royal family members as vice-presidents. Its
headquarters is located in Tokyo and local chapters are set up in all 47
prefectures. 15,530,000 individual and 220,000 corporate members belong to
the society, which operates 92 Red Cross hospitals and 79 blood centers
all over the country. The Japanese Red Cross conducts relief activities when major
disasters take place. Large earthquakes which frequently occur in Japan
like Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11th 2011 are an area of work
for the society. The Japan Red Cross request the world for help. If you
want to donate money to those affected by the earthquake and tsunami,
please contact your national Red Cross or Red Crescent society, which may
have already launched a fund raising campaign within your country. The
Japanese Red Cross has played a key role in emergency response and
recovery efforts. It has already provided a package of household
appliances to 82,000 families who have moved in to temporary homes. The
program will be expanded to reach around 110,000 families. If you are
