The Great East Japan Earthquake has caused enormous damage in various regions. We would like to express our sincere condolences to those who lost their lives and the bereaved, and our deepest sympathies to those and their families who were affected by this tragedy. The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (Chairman: Toshiyuki Shiga) is working hard with full-scale efforts toward recovery and rebuilding after the Great East Japan Earthquake. With deep conviction that the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show 2011 will demonstrate the resilience of Japanese manufacturing to Japan and the world, JAMA will hold the Show in December this year at Tokyo Big Sight as planned.

All 14 manufacturers and 15 brands of Japan as well as 19 companies and 22 brands from abroad are scheduled to exhibit

A total of 175 exhibitors from 11 countries and 1 region will participate, covering 34,919 square meters of exhibit space. This greatly surpasses the previous 2009 Show, which had 129 exhibitors from 10 countries and 1 region covering 21,823 sq m of exhibit space. The number of exhibitors increased 36%, while exhibit space grew by 60%. All 14 manufacturers and 15 brands of Japanese cars as well as 19 companies and 22 brands from abroad (passenger cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles and Carrozzeria categories) will take part in the Show. This marks a magnificent comeback from the previous show, which had 9 companies and 9 brands from abroad. The Tokyo Motor Show will unveil world premiere models and the most advanced technologies to the world.

A great location and an efficiently compact show schedule

Making a return to Tokyo after 24 years, this year's Tokyo Motor Show will be held at the Tokyo Big Sight, a convention center in the Ariake - Odaiba Area in Tokyo's waterfront. The Show will use the entire 82,660 sq m facility. The show period was shortened by three days compared with the previous show of 2009, but still includes two weekends to allow a wider range of visitors to attend.

To be the world's leading technology-driven motor show

As a symbol of "Japan, the technology-intensive country," the Tokyo Motor Show aims to be the leading technology-driven motor show by showcasing cutting-edge technology that connects automobiles, cities, and humans.

Introducing a new initiative: "SMART MOBILITY CITY 2011"

JAMA will present the new themed project "SMART MOBILITY CITY 2011." It will feature "next-generation automobiles and the social systems with which they interact" to highlight the roles and responsibilities of the automotive industry amidst growing concern over the global environment and resources. A total of 15 companies (as of April 26) will participate from a wide range of industries, including energy, environment, urban planning, telecommunications, and so forth. In addition to cutting-edge technology exhibits, a core exhibit area consisting of a theme movie as well as next-generation automobiles and basic technology guides welcomes visitors. What's more, there will be test rides of next-generation automobiles, demonstrations on automated driving and telematics, international symposiums on ITS and Smart Community, advanced technology seminars for professionals, and kids' workshops to foster the dreams of the children who will lead the next generation.
